Do Dumb People Believe More Conspiracy Theories?

Some people now believe the U.S. is being controlled by Satan-worshipping paedophiles.

Some 15–20% of Americans now believe in conspiracy theories, including one that states that the Government, media, and financial worlds in the U.S. are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping paedophiles.

The internet has given theorists a large platform to spread their conspiracy theories. Leading many to question the validity of the virus, even questioning the medical experts. Conspiracy theorists instead turned to YouTube and blogging experts for their wisdom.

Generally, conspiracy theories begin to spread when there’s an unknown event plaguing the world. This can be explained through a particular set of motives;

“Belief in conspiracy theories appears to be driven by motives that can be characterized as epistemic (understanding one’s environment), existential (being safe and in control of one’s environment), and social (maintaining a positive image of the self and the social group)” — Karen M. Douglas et al.
